If you're a competitive skater, you know that hot spots can be a major pain. These areas of discomfort can develop in your boot due to the pressure of your foot against the hard carbon fiber or fiberglass material. In the worst cases, hot spots can lead to blisters and even infection.
That's where the Bont Rip Jaws comes in. This hot spot removal tool was invented by Inze Bont in the late 1970s to help skaters adjust their fiberglass speed skates. Today, the Rip Jaws is available to anyone who wants to get rid of hot spots in their carbon fiber or fiberglass skate boots.
The Bont Rip Jaws is a simple but effective tool. It consists of a pair of metal jaws that are attached to a handle. To use the Rip Jaws, you simply place the jaws over the hot spot in your boot and then use the handle to apply pressure. The jaws will spread apart, pushing the material of the boot out and relieving the pressure on your foot.
The Bont Rip Jaws is a safe and effective way to remove hot spots from your skate boots. It's easy to use and doesn't require any special skills. Plus, the Rip Jaws is a relatively inexpensive tool, making it a great investment for any skater who wants to avoid hot spots.

Inline skates are a popular and exciting sport for kids, providing a fun way to stay active and improve physical fitness. Whether you're looking for a new hobby for your child or want to encourage them to get outdoors and stay active, inline skating can be an excellent choice.
However, choosing the right pair of kids' inline skates can be challenging, especially if you're new to the sport. With so many different brands and models on the market, it can be difficult to know where to start. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at kids' inline skates, discussing the different types available, the key features to look for, and the benefits of inline skating for children.
There are several different types of kids' inline skates on the market, each designed for a specific purpose. Some of the most common types include:
Fitness Skates: These skates are designed for everyday use and are great for kids who want to stay active and improve their physical fitness. They're typically made from durable materials, such as plastic or metal, and feature comfortable liners and adjustable straps for a secure fit.
Recreational Skates: These skates are perfect for kids who want to have fun and enjoy a leisurely ride around their neighborhood. They're often designed with colorful and eye-catching graphics and are available in various sizes and styles.

When shopping for kids' inline skates, it's important to consider the following key features:
Fit: A good fit is essential for comfort and performance. When trying on skates, make sure your child's toes aren't touching the front of the skates and that the skates are snug but not too tight.
Adjustability: Many kids' inline skates feature adjustable straps, which allow you to customize the fit as your child grows. This is a great feature, as it means you can get more use out of the skates and won't have to buy a new pair every time your child's feet grow.
Durability: Kids can be hard on their gear, so it's important to choose skates that are built to last. Look for skates made from high-quality materials, such as plastic or metal, that can withstand the wear and tear of regular use.
Wheel Size: The size of the wheels can impact the speed and stability of the skates. Larger wheels are generally faster, while smaller wheels are better for performing tricks.
Brakes: Kids' inline skates typically come with either a traditional heel brake or a modern frame brake. A heel brake is a simple and effective braking system, while a frame brake is more advanced and allows for greater control.

Bont is dedicated to creating cutting-edge designs and innovative products to meet the needs of the growing skating community. We are thrilled to introduce Bont Blocks, a new slide block designed specifically for the Bont Tracer/Prodigy plate.
After receiving many inquiries for a compatible slide block for the Parkstar roller skate package, we spent over a year designing and product testing to make the best slide block on the market.
We paid particular attention to the block shape, especially the edge design, to ensure smooth sliding on any surface. Whether you skate flat-footed or angle your feet, the Bont Block will lock you onto the coping or ledge without the risk of slipping out. Yes, unity slides are possible with Bont Blocks.
The metal bar is open on each end to make it compatible with other 20-degree plates. The bar is 3mm thick, so it will not bend or deform even after heavy impact.
In terms of sizing, we made it super simple. The Bont Block size matches the Tracer/ Prodigy plate size. For example, if you have a size 6.5 Tracer plate, you will need a 6.5 Bont Block. You can find the plate size on the plate near the back pivot cup. Note: Plate size is different to boot size.
Sizes: 5.5", 6.0", 6.5", 7.0" and 7.5"
Block material: High polymer polyethylene
Metal bar material: Powder coated steel
Made for the Bont Tracer or Prodigy plate and may fit other 20-degree plates and other plates with bar modification but will void your warranty.
In 1976, Mr. Inze Bont invented a tool to customize ice speed skates to remove hotspots. He supplied them to some shops and distributors of his skates but the tool was made with bits of bolts welded to a set of clamps. Now, for the first time we have released a produce for skate shops, skaters and the public to stretch their inline skates, ice skates, ice hockey skates, figure skates, roller derby skates or any type of boot or shoe that needs stretching.
Here are two videos showing how the Bont Rip Jaws works on inline speed skates and roller skates.
How to Use the Bont Rip Jaws Hotspot Removal Tool for Roller Skate Boots
How to Use the Bont Rip Jaws Hotspot Removal Tool for Inline and Ice Skate Boots
You can use this boot stretching tool to stretch your boots or skates wherever you feel pain. The Bont Rip Jaws hot spot removal tool removes hotspots from your boots. A hot spot is an area of discomfort in your boot. Carbon fiber and fiberglass boots only have a very thin layer of padding between your foot and the hard carbon fiber. Sometimes blisters can occur and the Rip Jaws has been designed to stretch the area of discomfort out to make the boot comfortable to skate in.

Rip Jaw Boot Stretcher Instructions
1) Remove the laces from your boots
2) Heat the area of discomfort with a hairdryer for about 5 minutes or in the oven. Refer to your boot manufacturer's heat molding instructions. Click here for Bont heat molding.
3) Open the Rip Jaws and use the knob at the end of the handle to open it up widely.
4) Put the Rip Jaws over the problem area and use the same knob to tighten the screw.
5) Pull the handles together so it locks in place and stretch the boot.
6) Wait a few minutes for the boot to cool and then unlock the Rip Jaws. You can do this process again if need be. Remember that if you have a blister or a painful spot on your foot, it's best to let it heal before testing the boot because your foot will still feel pain if it has not healed.
Introducing the new Bont Shimmer Skate Laces. Bont Shimmer laces shimmer in the light and make your roller skates really stand out. Photos of these laces really don’t do them justice; you need to see them in the sun to see how amazing they look. Check out the video below to see how they glitter in the sun.
Skate Laces Sizes and Information
Shimmer skate laces come in 11 different colors including purple, gold, red, green, rainbow, teal, blue, pink, light pink and black.
Bont Skate laces are designed by roller skaters for skaters. Although we originally designed these roller skate laces for roller skates they work equally well as figure skate laces, hockey skate laces, ice skate laces, roller derby laces, speed skate laces, and inline skate laces.
The laces are made with metallic fibers that glitter in the sun and really give your skates a spark. These metallic fibers make your skates stand out from very far away. Your friends will be amazed at how good your skates look with your new upgraded Bont Shimmer Skate Laces. The tips feature durable plastic tips for easy lacing.
Skate Lace Lengths
These skate laces are sold as a pair and come in 79", 96" and 108" lengths. They are suitable for all types of skates such as Roller Derby Laces, Hockey Skate Laces, Inline Skate Laces, Figure Skate Laces, Roller skate laces for women, and Regular Shoes.
To select the right skate lace length, remove your current laces and measure them and then order the laces that are a similar length to the ones you currently have in your skates.
Skate Lace Color Coordination Ideas
Skate Laces for inline skates: When thinking about which color lace to order, here are three simple suggestions. 1. Order the same color as your boot. If you have a black inline boot with a black shimmer lace, it will really look good. 2. Use a contrasting color which is the opposite color of your inline boot. For example, if you have an orange boot, a blue lace is on the opposite end of the color spectrum so that would look great on your inline skates. 3. Look at the trim color of your boots or a part of your skate such as the frame or wheels. If you have a white skate with red logos on your wheels, then a red lace would really make your inline skates pop.

Skate Laces for figure skates: If you use white figure skates, the silver lace would be the most suitable color for your white figure skates. If you wear black figure skates then a black lace would look great on your black figure skates.
Skate laces for kids: Kids love bright colors and the best way to choose skate laces for kids is to ask them which color skate lace they prefer. They will usually surprise you with their choice and come up with some strange color combination but that’s part of the fun. Rainbow laces are always a good option for kid’s skate laces.
Skate Laces for women: Let’s face it, all of these shimmer lace colors work well for women’s skates, it just depends on what you like. If you are buying the laces for your partner and want ideas, take a look at Instagram to get some inspiration for skate lace colors that will match your boot color.
Skate laces for roller derby skates: As I suggested with the roller skates, try choosing a contrasting color, matching color or trim color for your roller derby skates.

Introducing the new Bont Carbon Zeus roller speed skating plate. Bont pioneered the use of carbon fiber in skating equipment way back in 1989. We recently invested in new equipment to produce inline frames and roller skate plates from carbon fiber. The investment was more than $250,000 in this new machinery. The first product that we made was the Bont Supercell inline skate frame. This is the most advanced inline speed skating frame ever made. Now, we introduce the Zeus Carbon roller skate plate.
.
.
Speed roller skating is a sport based around nostalgia and heritage. I wanted the carbon Zeus plate design to retain the classic retro plate look and feel but modernize it with carbon fiber. This would dramatically lighten and strengthen the plate over the aluminum version. In this regard, the design was fairly easy because the aluminum Zeus had already been made and the design was already very good for carbon fiber. All we needed to do was to work out how to get the plate out of the mold which was a fairly simple task.
.
.
Strength testing was done on the computer to compare the strength to the aluminum version before we opened the tooling. Once the first prototype was made we did some real work stress tests with our machine that breaks objects and tells us the load needed to break it. Everything checked out so we moved to real-world testing where we had skaters in Australia, USA, and Korea all test the plate.
The first plate is 165cm and now that the testing was successful we are opening the molds for 145cm, 155cm and 175cm. They should be ready around the end of November 2020.
The Bont Carbon Zeus plate is available in the following sizes: 145mm (5.7"), 155mm (6.1"), 165mm (6.5") and 175mm (6.9"). This measurement is taken from the center of the axles.
I know, this is what you have all been wanting to know, how much lighter is it?
The Carbon Zeus plate weighs only 85g or under 3 ounces. That is 60 grams lighter than the aluminum plate. Total weight with trucks is 333g or 11.7 ounces.
The front kingpin is made of steel and the rear kingpin is aluminum.

]]>Hi, I am Gael Doucet-Gagnon and this is my story about how I came to design the Bont short track sharpening jig.
I’ve started skating when I was 6 years old, and ever since I’ve been fascinated by the sport of speed skating. On the surface it looks like a simple sport, where we skate as fast as we can going left on an oval ice track. Actually, it’s not as simple, it’s focussed on details. When the plan is to be the fastest skating the oval track, the task is quite complex. How do you become the best at the sport? By spending years practicing and perfecting your technic, working on strategies, and being at your best physical condition. As for equipment, the same principles apply. Boots fitted perfectly, blade’s that glide the ice and some protection. Again, it appears simple but not as easy to produce. Skating towards our full potential requires the equipment be optimized for our sport.
It’s not rocket science, but the complexity behind this simple idea, the way we chose to make it so perfect, and the passion involved behind this not quite simple jig is what makes it so special. Just like the sport of speed skating.
My experience as 20 years old speedskater and my constant interest in the complexity of the equipment have been an ongoing inspiration for wanting to contribute in bettering its apparatus.
Knowing my ongoing passion for that, Mr. Marc Pelletier the owner of Xact Performance and Canadian distributer for Bont Canada posted in Quebec offered me the opportunity to realize my dream. Bont wanted to produce a new speed skating sharpening jig, and he asked me if I would be interested in designing one for them. Gladly I accepted knowing that my studies in civil engineering would assist me in achieving the goal.
In designing a new sharpening jig, I made use of a 3D visualization plan in wanting to represent the machining specifications and demonstrate it’s potential. Having learned how to use CAD (computer-aided design) at school, I used the software AutoCAD to get the job done. While creating the product, my objectives were the same as in civil engineering: optimizing quality with production efficiency.
My first goal was to be certain that the jig could fit every brand of blades on the market, no matter the degree of their wear and tear. Some removable items were designed and specifications of the dimensions of the jig were given to assure every existing blade on the market worldwide would get its perfect fit. Also, I needed to make certain the least amount of tension was to be laid on the blades. The reason for that is to not affect their bending while keeping a good grip to them when sharpening.
My second goal was to minimize the total weight and promote its long-lasting durability. I wanted the jig to be lightweight and to be easily packed when traveling to train and to competitions. As we do in civil engineering, I chose to play with the shape of the product. Where it was possible in doing so, I optimized the design in order to diminish its weight, and made certain to keep more material on the more accident-prone areas most likely to be deformed in case of misfortune
My third goal was to design a jig that was easy to produce for making the jig affordable for everyone. Again, I adapted the forms making them easy to engineer so we could diminish the selling price of the product. In doing so, we would also decrease the potential risk of manufacturing defects.
Finally, I wanted every piece of the assembly to be easily accessible. In order to standardize the product, a norm was found for each screw or piece used for assembling this jig.
I came up with a basic design for the sharpening jig but had different ideas concerning some specificities that could be included or not in to the design. Not knowing which one Bont would prefer, five slightly different options of 2D plans were given based on 3D designs. The model chosen was a unique design, using a 90-degree aluminum bracket that could be used to adjust the height of the blade sitting on the jig. As for the design, the prototype was successfully produced. More guidance and specifications were given to the machinist, so they could truly understand the intent of the requested changes. Initially intended for the Canadian market, from there on the production began.
As you know a speed skating sharpening jig does a quite simple job. In order to get a really sharp edge, like any other jig, the Bont Pro jig holds our blades at 90 degrees while sharpening... It’s not rocket science, but the complexity behind this simple idea, the way we chose to make it so perfect, and the passion involved behind this not quite simple jig is what makes it so special. Just like short track speed skating.

The Zeus roller skate plate features a 7-degree action. This means that the trucks (the part that connects the wheels to the boot) are more upright than you will find on a normal roller skate or roller derby skate that may use a 20 degree or 33-degree action. In practice, the lower the number of degrees in the truck action, the more stable the plate is, and the harder it is to turn. The ease or difficulty of turning can also be adjusted in your truck set up and also by changing the hardness of the cushions. Softer cushions will make the plate easier to turn.
The Zeus plate is triply polished to give it an extremely shiny finish. Each polishing uses a finer finish until the final polishing is done by hand.
The axles are 8mm quick release axles that allow you to quickly change wheels between races. The spring in the quick release system is strong and it has a nice feel to the action. The axles are 8mm in diameter so they will fit standard 608 bearings.
Rather than using a top cone cushion, we use a traditional double barrel set up on the Zeus plate. The cushions are made in the USA from Bont’s famous high rebounding urethane.
The lock nut is 6061 aluminum with a grub screw for fine-tune adjustment to suit your speed skating style. The plates profile allows for the fitment of wheels up to 72mm in diameter.

]]>The BNT inline speed skate does away with many modern boot features such as bumpers and thermoplastic, excess padding, and zippers to form Bont's purest speed skating boot.
The interior of the BNT is a comfortable place to be with or without socks. The lightweight foam is a snug fit. The lace cover and buckle are intuitively simple and accessible.
At the rear, the BNT wraps around your ankle emphasizing your foot's muscular stance.
Due to the BNT boots thin padding and tight heel, this boot will be very responsive but also is more suited to skaters looking for that extra 0.1 seconds in a race. If you are an older skater or someone who likes more comfort, you should option this boot with more padding.
A beautifully proportioned one-piece shell is bonded to the boot with Bont's famous epoxy resin. Taut carbon and responsive neoprene padding all combine to make the BNT astonishingly agile, keeping you firmly connected to whatever road or track you skate.
This boot comes with four standard color options. These boots are in production and the images will be updated here as soon as we have them.
Using MyBonts you can customize your Bont BNT boot and give it your own personal touch. Click here for mybonts.

Hi, I’m Disco (Hugh Rowland) the designer of Discotrux roller skate trucks. Here is my story, the journey through the design of Discotrux.
An idea starts with a conversation. A seed of thought is planted to inspire a path of curiosity and problem-solving.
My conversation started in early 2019 with my skate buddy and Discoblox ambassador Whippa (Ricky Moss). We discussed the options for wide skate trucks to suit our roller skates. How we look forward to building our next pair of skates, better than our last. That which worked before could be better, or as we change plates how we need to complement its shape.
Although there seems to be a proven trend of adapting skateboard trucks and even current wide trucks for roller skates on the market, the outcome is cumbersome, and in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired of the final performance.
A skateboard truck has a cast shape that is limited to its original geometry.
This definite shape becomes difficult to customize into the broad range of skate plate designs, considering the changes in geometry and necessary parts that may also need to be modified.
Here was my first brief,
- that Discotrux has the ability to change its geometry.
This is why Discotrux includes a ‘Pivot Pin Adaptor’. Across the early prototypes, we calculated a couple of different angle approaches this adaptor could have. The Bont package includes the adaptor that allows the truck to suit so many angles of plate degrees. This part is complemented by a pivot pin, with a small ball head and a thin tapered neck. This feature allows the pin to approach and action to different angles without interfering with the pivot cup.
I can thank Geoff Brown (HeBeGB) for critiquing my early prototype of this feature.
The Bont package includes a spare pivot pin of extra length for the subtle difference that some plates will require.
My next concern was what width of truck I wanted.
A wider truck offers stability and connection with the change in shape of the surface that you experience when park or street skating. Also a much different reactivity than a standard roller skate truck.
A standard roller skate truck has a body of 50mm. Other wide trucks are of about 70mm. I was looking for but couldn’t find a suitable truck any bigger.
Discotrux have interchangeable axle housing of 70mm and 100mm.
In my experience now using Discotrux, the 70mm is great for street and for bowls up to 6ft. For bowls and vert that are bigger, the 100mm has greater performance. A performance I had never experienced!
With a design in mind, I took my research to my new associate Aiden Wescombe, an engineer and machinist. He took my brief and created the first prototype.
I took this home and began experimenting. First, with different plates I had from old skates and finally with the Bont Tracer plate. In fact, much of our design was directed to complimenting the Bont plate.
I was immediately impressed with the performance. The most important factor in acheiving good performance of the truck is that the pivot pin is making contact with the base of the pivot cup.
Discotrux roller skate trucks suit plates with hard plastic pivot cups. This ensures that the action of the truck is properly pivoting on the pivot pin, as its name implies.
It is common for roller skates that have rubber pivot cups that the pivot pin is only kept in place by its pivot cup but not actually touching the bottom. The result is that the truck does its work on the bushings only, and bounces or hammers the pivot cup. This results in quickly worn out cups and broken truck bosses.
By mid-2019 I had a finished product and commissioned my first sets for road testing. So far, so good. In October 2019 I was on my way to a skate event. A real opportunity to put my trucks to the test. On my way, I met with Bont director, Alexander Bont, for lunch. I showed him my complete setup. Bont boot, Bont plates and Discotrux. He could instantly recognize the new design features and agreed to make an exact example from the Bont factory. This didn’t take long. You could say that I got my first Bont Discotrux for Christmas!
Some other lucky skaters have had the opportunity to experience Discotrux, for road testing. Originals first produced by Disco, the collector's edition!
From January 2020 we have been working to deliver Discotrux to market, a collaboration with Bont, with much help from Christine Murray (Shorty) and the Bont team.
