FAMILY COMPANY
Fifty years of obsessive craftsmanship, exotic materials, and handmade performance - from a garage in Sydney to podiums on every continent.
OUR BELIEF
The skate you wear should be an extension
of your body - not a limitation of it.
Every material choice, every mold, every gram saved is a decision made in service of the skater. That has been true since 1975. It will be true in 2075.
THE ORIGIN HISTORY
The skate you wear should be an extension
of your body - not a limitation of it.
In 1975, Inze Bont was a recreational speed skater in Sydney, Australia. Frustrated by the lack of support in his leather boots, he fiberglassed the back of his own skates. It worked - and it changed everything.
That small act of problem-solving launched the world's most innovative skate company. Bont became the first footwear manufacturer to use fiberglass (1974), Kevlar (1986), and carbon fibre (1989) in performance footwear.
Bont invented the heat-moldable boot and pioneered adjustable blade and frame systems. In the 1980s, Bont dominated quad racing with the lightest boots on the market. Today, that same relentless drive powers every product we make.
My name is on every Bont product. As a family company, we stand behind our skates and the quality, innovation, and performance they represent.
"I fiberglassed the back of my own skates because nothing on the market gave me what I needed. That's still how we think."

Innovation timeline
1974
Fiberglass in footwear
Bont becomes the first footwear manufacturer to use fiberglass in skate construction - years before any competitor.
1975
Bont Skates, Sydney
Inze Bont founds the company after fiberglassing his own leather boots. The heat-moldable boot concept is born.
1986
Quad racing dominance
Bont pioneers the use of Kevlar in skate boots - a material previously reserved for aerospace and military applications.
1989
Kevlar enters the boot
Carbon fibre changes the game - radical weight savings with increased stiffness. Bont is first to market, again.
2008
Carbon fibre construction
With the global quad market resurgence - driven by roller derby - Bont re-enters roller skating and applies decades of carbon construction expertise to a new generation of skaters.
Today
World's leading speed skate brand
Bont skates are worn by Olympians, world champions, and weekend warriors across inline, ice, and roller - on every continent.
our technology
The exotic trio
First used: 1974
Fiberglass in footwear
The original exotic material. Rigid where leather was soft, light where leather was heavy. It gave skaters something they'd never felt - a boot that truly supported the ankle without adding dead weight.
First used: 1986
Kevlar
Five times stronger than steel by weight. Originally developed for bulletproof vests and aircraft hulls, Bont brought it to skate boots over a decade before competitors considered it possible.
First used: 1989
Carbon Fibre
The pinnacle of structural materials - and the backbone of every elite Bont boot today. Uni-directional carbon in the Vaypor delivers stiffness and power transfer that simply cannot be matched at this weight.
what drive us
Built on four beliefs
01
Lighter. Stronger. Faster.
Every material choice, every construction decision, every gram saved exists in service of one goal - a skater who moves better than they did yesterday. We don't add features; we remove limitations.
02
Handcrafted precision
Bont boots are hand-built. Not assembled on a production line. Our Custom Studio exists because we believe a boot should fit the skater - not the other way around. Heat-moldable construction is the foundation of everything we make.
03
Pioneer or don't bother
Fiberglass in 1974. Kevlar in 1986. Carbon in 1989. We have always moved first and moved alone. Playing catch-up has never interested us. If we're not years ahead, we're not trying hard enough.
04
Family accountability
The Bont name is literally on every product. That's not marketing - it's accountability. We are a family company and we stand directly behind every boot, wheel, and bearing we sell. No layers. No disclaimers.
