Description

JESA 608 Black Series Roller Skate Bearings combine high-grade steel balls, double-polished races, and lightweight racing oil for a smooth, fast roll. Developed from scratch with JESA of Switzerland, they are built for skaters who want performance that holds up when their wheels are carrying a load. The details inside the bearing, from the steel to the running surfaces, are what make the difference.

High-Quality Steel for Performance Under Load

Most skate bearings look similar from the outside. The important differences are harder to see: the quality of the steel, the precision of the balls, and the finish of the surfaces they run on. A bearing that spins freely in your hand is only showing part of the picture. On your skates, it must keep rolling while supporting your weight and responding to the forces of pushing, cornering, and accelerating.

We use aerospace-grade steel for the outer race of the Black Series bearing. This is the outer steel ring that sits inside the wheel. Its job includes supporting the load while maintaining a consistent running track for the balls. Our choice of high-quality steel is part of the effort to control deformation under skating loads and preserve that running geometry.

Why Can a Bearing Warp Under Load?

All bearings deform to some degree under load. When a race flexes excessively, the path followed by the balls can become less circular. Imagine a round track being squeezed toward an oval: the balls no longer follow the same consistent curve all the way around. Changes in contact and loading can increase resistance, making the bearing work harder to maintain its smooth roll.

The actual changes can be very small and are not necessarily a perfect oval. Steel selection, race geometry, and support from the wheel hub work together to control them. High-quality construction helps limit unwanted distortion; it does not eliminate every trace of elastic flex. This is why we pay attention to how the bearing performs under load, especially during fast skating and powerful cornering.

Conceptual comparison of a circular bearing ball path and an exaggerated oval path caused by race distortion under load.
Conceptual illustration. Deformation is exaggerated to explain the principle; this is not a measured comparison.

Double-Polished Inner and Outer Races

The races provide the running surfaces that guide the balls around the bearing. Even precisely made balls depend on the quality of these surfaces. Small surface irregularities can affect the contact between the balls and raceways, so finishing the races is an important part of reducing rolling resistance.

For the Black Series, we double-polish both the inner and outer race. This additional finishing work produces smoother running surfaces for the steel balls. The aim is to reduce friction at the points where the balls and races meet, helping the bearing roll consistently as the wheel turns. It is a manufacturing detail you may not notice by looking at the outside, but it is central to the way we build this bearing.

Precisely Rounded Balls and Carefully Chosen Components

The high-grade steel balls go through multiple polishing stages. Bont specifies more ball-polishing stages than those used for standard ABEC 5, 7, or 9 bearings, with the aim of making the balls as precisely round as possible. Consistent roundness helps the balls travel smoothly along the double-polished races. An ABEC number alone does not describe every design and finishing choice that affects a skate bearing.

JESA also increased the radial clearance as part of the Black Series design to help reduce drag. Radial clearance is the internal movement available between the balls and rings before loading. It influences how the balls share the load and make contact with the races, so it must be considered as part of the complete bearing design.

A lightweight TN9 plastic cage keeps the seven steel balls spaced around the bearing and helps guide their movement. Its selection supports our goal of low rolling resistance. We finish the bearing with a special lightweight racing oil from Germany, chosen to lubricate the running surfaces while keeping drag low.

Tested on Skates

Our professional inline skating team, which includes world champions, tests the bearings in real-world skating conditions. We use back-to-back lap-time comparisons and roll tests to evaluate performance, while our roller derby team tests bearing strength during bouts. These tests underpin Bont's claim that the Black Series is the fastest steel skate bearing on the market.

Choose the Black Series for a bearing built around material quality, controlled running geometry, and carefully finished contact surfaces. Keep your bearings clean, correctly lubricated, and properly installed to help maintain their smooth roll.

I just got these bearings; they have been loaded into a set of wheels, Bont BPMs, and spin-tested on the Bont bearing press with a very good run-out. I am waiting for my boots and trucks (custom-made by a competitor). I am looking forward to having a great first skate on these bearings and wheels in a couple of days. Cheers!!

The JESA 608 Black Series Roller Skate Bearings are like miniature magic carpets underneath your feet. These 8mm jewels are composed of aerospace-grade steel. The Switzerland engineers at JESA have surpassed the polishing standards of ABEC 5, 7, & 9 bearings. Needless to say, they are EXTREMELY FAST!! FYI, I'd definitely recommend improving your stopping maneuvers and also look forward to purchasing more toe stops soon. LOL!

I was referred to these bearings from a skate shop & i will say I wouldn’t bother using anything else! I haven’t got a chance to use many other brands except for a few that might of came with wheels. But at this point I am so happy with the Bont Jesa’s that I don’t want to use anything else. They are so smooth and roll fast. They are amazing!! I won’t buy anything else! Thank you Bont!!

Love the products I’ve purchased lately, but very disappointed by the fact that I was denied a discount on my last purchase. I have spent a substantial amount of money in the last several weeks, and a discount on my last order would have made me feel like a valued customer. Sadly I am just another customer.

The complete skate is amazing a whole different level from the boots to the plates to the wheels to the bearings. I’m completely 100% satisfied thank you guys top-of-the-line.

I ordered 2 set of Jesa Black's, one bearing out of both sets was noisy and a little rough on rotation. I contacted Bont and they shipped me a replacement free of charge. Now on to the bearings... they are extremely smooth, fast and quiet!!! I WILL be buying more in the future! Thanks for a great product and Customer Service. 👍

There are a lot of companies out here but Bont puts quality first and it really shows. Thank you for making quality bearings that spin. I am looking forward to experiencing more of your products.

These bearings are good, not as good a ceramic, but very good! I realized the bearings that came with my skates and even some of the ones I bought from Amazon were just not letting the wheel roll freely, even though the nut was not too tight. These bearings are way better than the ones you can find on Amazon and since they are backed by Bont, I took another chance that I wasn't going to buy yet another set of bearings that weren't helping. Thank you Bont!

Smooth roll! These bearing are fantastic! Using them now for over a month and they ride beautifully. It was night and day the difference between these bearings and the ones that came stock on my skates. Paired with bont wheels it's a completely different experience!
