A Roller Skate Plate Made of Wood
A few weeks ago I woke up and thought to myself ‘I want to see what a wooden roller skate plate would look like’.
I am always designing and creating roller skates made of high tech equipment. I felt like it was the right time to try and make something low tech.

Wood is such a great material. It is easy to work, inexpensive, and strong. I used the same CNC program that we make the Athena aluminum roller skate plate out of but I used a solid block of pine wood instead of the usual aluminum.
I think the result is very nice. You can see the texture and the grain of the wood in the roller skate plate. The plate weighs just 45 grams (1.59 oz) and it has all of the details to make it function such as the toe stop screw hole and truck screw holes. The rear of the plate has been lightened just like the real Athena Plate.
After adding the trucks and stopper, this is how the finished plate looks.

I love the look of it. Sadly, it’s not strong enough to skate on.
